success in atlanta

what a great time! we got to meet dr. woodie flowers and eat ice cream at the top of the tallest hotel in the western hemisphere. way. the competition was fun, loads of great teams. looking forward to next year. here is our year in review movie.

we are competing in atlanta!

we are competing in the FIRST national/international vEx competition in atlanta from thurs 4/27-4/29 due to our win of the think award at the NERVE competition in hartford, ct. o boy! becca, avi, and coach Jill will not be able to attend, :( . we will be competing with 50 teams from the states and canada, including teams 13 and 78 from sharon, too! we competed in georgia last year as part of the vEx pilot season, and had a blast! for some, this is the third time going to atlanta.

N.E.R.V.E. in Hartford

we had a BLAST competing with teams from the US and canada at the regional tournament in hartford, ct on March 10th 2006. we arrived at the coneventon center at 7 in the morning, and found a team from the bronx with a broken robot! we helped them rebuild their bot, and they were very high in the overall rankings, great job. it was our first official tournament and we were excited to learn how developed our autonomous program was; well, that was until everyone else figured it out. we made the semi-finals

with team 13 and 175 (block robotics from canada) as our alliances,

which earned us bronze medals. we also won the think award for our clear engineering notebook design, collabiration, and team equality! sharon team 78 also won the connect award and the winnng alliance award, great job myotonics!

all three teams made the local paper!

WPI Scrimmage

on feb. 25, we competed at the WPI scrimmage with other teams from ma. There we figured out some problems with our robot, well, mainly one HUGE problem: our center of gravity was way....off.

it looked cool upsidedown, though, but it didn't do much of anything:) with a few modifications, we were able to keep four wheels on the ground, most of the time.

we also attended a programming seminar, and found out that vEx programming is very similar to FLL programing. with a tumbling bot and a non existent program, we left before the autonomous rounds, but we had a great day anyway! and mich got a WPI pin from the request of nancy.

Savage Soccer

we went to WPI on sunday, nov. 5, 2005 for their savage soccer tournament.

the field was divided into two sides, one for each two team alliance. there are two towers on each side of the field with four penny rolls on each tower. on one side of the field there's a scale that determines which team wins, depending on how much weight is in each end of the scale.

teams can also pull on a rope on either side of the scale to tip it in their favor. we discovered that our robot had effective gearing for the competition but our arm was ineffective for getting penny rolls off the tower, however it was very useful for pulling the string.

in between our rounds, we used the ramp on one side of the room and the rolling chairs to have ramp races!
